We have reported previously on the US Government practice of allowing the US Customs and Border Protection to release the personal details of individuals moving to the USA, these details then appear on the internet and so quite legally enter into the public domain.
Once released this Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is virtually impossible to remove.
Up to now, this release of PII could only be prevented by completing and submitting a formal confidentiality request to the US Customs service. We are pleased to advise that the bill has finally been signed and it is now law that this information be protected and not released. This is a huge win for our industry associations who championed the task to force this legislation and we congratulate them for this achievement.
