All goods entering into Australia are normally subject to Australian Customs and Quarantine inspection prior to clearance. Unaccompanied baggage and household goods may be imported into Australia free of customs duty providing the personal and household effects have been owned for (12) twelve months or more preceding the customer’s departure for Australia.
Items not in this category, which have been owned for less than twelve months, will be subject to duty and GST (Goods and Services Tax), these include and are not limited to, alcohol (all alcohol is dutiable and must be declared, even partly used bar stock, but there is no limit to the quantity you can import), tobacco products and motor vehicles. The rates applicable vary and purchase receipts, invoices or the like will be required to substantiate values involved.
Remember that we are here to help and advise, so if you have specific questions related to Australian Customs or Quarantine please contact any Nuss office for immediate advice.
