History of Nuss Removals
Our Early Years
The history of Nuss Removals dates back to 1892. That year, John George Nuss began a carrying business using a horse and cart in North Sydney. Known as J. Nuss & Son, the business quickly became respected for reliability and friendly service.
Growing With Sydney
In 1910, his son John Peter Nuss expanded the business and moved it to Neutral Bay. The Nuss family played a key role in supporting Sydney’s growing communities through a time of major change and development.
Introducing the First Motorised Removal Truck
In 1926, John Peter purchased one of the first motorised pantechnicon removal trucks on Sydney’s north shore. This innovation helped shape the modern moving industry. One of these original 1926 trucks still appears in local Christmas events, proudly representing our history.
The Post-War Era
After World War II, Athol Alexander Nuss became the third-generation owner. He helped rebuild the business during a time of strong growth across Australia.
Modern Expansion
In 1968, Robert John Nuss took over the company. Under his leadership, Nuss Removals expanded across Sydney and opened new facilities. In 1984, he purchased the current head office at 63 Epping Road, Lane Cove, now called “Fort Nuss” due to its prominent location.
The company later expanded further with a large warehouse and office complex in Ermington, opened in 2004.
Our Recent History
1978: Nuss joined the International Federation of International Removalists and began offering global relocation services.
1997: Opened a full-service branch in Melbourne.
1998: Launched Nuss Relocations, providing school search, home search, and settling-in services for families moving to Australia.
Today, Nuss Removals remains the only four-generation removal company in Australia still led by the founding family.
